Movies To Look Forward To

Ok, it's getting harder and harder to deny that I don't have time for my blog anymore, but I'm not going to abandon it. The tide may turn and I may get fired and I will then have more opportunities to put in more posts...but don't count on it.

I have been eagerly anticipating a few upcoming movies which I will be enumarating in this entry. A lot of the more popular ones like Transformers, Spiderman 3 and the Wolverine spinoff may be too far away for me to make a buzz report on, but there are a few movies coming in the next few months that not only showe promise, but are slated to be movies to be so groundbreaking, they might leave a trail for other movies to follow. here ar my most anticipated movies for the next few months.

The Illusionist- Edward Norton is fun to watch on screen. But Jessica Biel is more fun.

The Prestige- Yet another movie about turn-of-the-century magicians. This one though, is helmed by Memento's Christopher Nolan. Which makes it more important than The Illusionist.

The Science of Sleep- Michel Gondry knows trippy. His Eternal Sunshijne Of The Spotless Mind was probably one of the most critically acclaimed movies of 2003, and is my second favorite for that year. Gael garcia Bernal has been showing a lot of promise with his movie choices after The Motorcycle Diaries. This is probably the role that those ignorant Americans are going to recognize him by.

Babel- From Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu, creator of Amores Perros and 21 Grams comes another story of intersecting lives and the triumphs and tragedies of the human experience. Sure, it has been done via Crash and Traffic, but if you hadn't seen 21 Grams or Amores Perros, you best shut up.

The Fountain- Darren Aronofsky is said to have completely created a new sci-fi subgenre whith this movie. Set in three differrent time periods, The Fountain is said to ba a trip through time devoid of logic and chronology, let's just hope it actually gets released here!

The Children Of Men- From Alfonso Cuaron of Y Tu Mama Tambien and the rarely credited but hugely inspired version of Great Expectations. Set in England in the near future, it deals with how people deal with their loss of the ability to reproduce. This sounds like fun, seeing that the youngest person in the earth at that time is already 18 years old. You know what that means? No annoying child actors!!

I'm A Cyborg, But It's Okay- Chan Wook park of Oldboy and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance is trying to steer away from the revenge drama and is shifting his attention to a lighter subject matter, a girl and boy with mental disorders inside a nuthouse. Now, don't get soft on us, Chan Wook.

Flags of Our Fathers/ Red Sun, Black Sand- Clint Eastwood is like--what, 100 years old? And he still comes up with the most novel cinematic idea in this entire list.
Two movies, diferent release dates (FOOF in October, RSBS in December), same event, same subject, different points of view. Flag of our Fathers rallies behind the American Triumph of Iwo Jima as depicted in that iconic photograph of the soldiers
raising up the American Flag. Red Sun, Black Sand deals with the Japanese General who reluctantly leads his Imperial troops into a deathtrap in the beach. Both films show the courage of both parties and their integrity amidst difficult decisions in a war they were reluctant to join. How cool is that?
