The Rocketboy in Hollywood
It was a pretty light week at work in Newport Beach. We were introduced to the crew and we were given a little tour of the office premises. We were checked in at a really sweet hotel. I have never seen so many sportscars in my life.
Just this afternoon after a hearty Thanksgiving lunch my aunt suggested that we go somewhere fun. peaople made suggestions, Beverly Hills, Disneyland, Universal Studios... Butsince I got here to LA there was only thing I wanted. A picture with Martin Scorsese's star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
I've known LA all my life through the movies I see and the stories from vast numbers of Filipino's who've been there, from the freeways to the multiracial mix to the great class divides between communities like Newport Beach and communities like Compton nad Watts. Not until I experienced LA for myself did I really appreciate the different issues they've been shamelessly publicizing through their movies and TV programs. I always thought the whole race thing was overblown, until I went downtown and felt the tension between people in this great cultural melting pot. They live amongst one another, yet they are watchful and tense.
Yet I just went about my business and focused on the tourist trail. The home of showbusiness.
More to come.
